Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Jazmine, who is Philadelphia native was raised and born there. Pam the mother of Jazmine is an ex-backup artist from Philadelphia International Records. Her father gave her an opportunity to be the curator at the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She and her family then moved into the landmark. In 2005 she graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in the class of singer-music major. Sullivan started singing as a contralto the youth choir and after a couple of years, she joined the adult choir. Sullivan's exposure to secular music was at first limited "I performed solos at the church, and I was asked to be a part of an evangelical label when I had turned eleven, however I wasn't at the point of doing that," she recalls. In the following year, McDonald's held a contest for children in large cities. I was allowed to perform "Accept What God Allows" on the show Showtime at the Apollo. And the public was extremely supportive. At the age 13 she performed to Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday. Sullivan began her contract with Jive Records at the age 15. It was her first time signing with Jive Records around the age of 15. She recorded an entire album. However, this album didn't get released. Sullivan was eventually removed from the label. There was a close relationship with Missy Elliott who wrote and recorded many of the tracks on her debut album, such as the brash single "Backstabbers" which was produced by Timbaland and written by Elliott.
